Job title: Innovate UK Project Lead – Circular Economy

Contract type: Full time, temporary – 15 months

Salary: £25,000-£42,000 per year depending on qualifications/experience

Location: Sunderland or Wilton Centre – Teesside with hybrid working available

The Purpose of this Role

The process industries are on a journey towards Net Zero, and circular economy is essential in the production of sustainable chemicals. The North East of England Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) and Teesside University have been awarded a grant by Innovate UK to investigate the production of sustainable olefins, which are essential building blocks within the chemical industry. Sustainable olefins refer to chemicals used in manufacture and processing, but whose source is not derived from petrochemicals. Engagement with a range of stakeholders will be required to assess feedstock, process, and economic viability of new opportunities, resulting in the production of a detailed strategic roadmap, to determine routes to olefin production within Teesside. 

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will have:

  • A background in sustainability/chemical engineering or a related discipline – ideally with a post-graduate qualification or PhD.
  • Highly developed data processing and analytical skills.
  • The ability to liaise with a range of different stakeholders including academia and industrialists. 
  • The ability to understand and evaluate a wide range of technologies.
  • The experience of producing comprehensive and detailed reports.
  • The ability to prioritise between competing priorities and the ability to collaborate within a team and proactively as an individual.

Desirables:

  • An understanding/appreciation of techno-economic and life cycle assessments processes.
  • Experience of working on circular economy projects.
