Chemistry at Newcastle provides a broad range of expertise from the design and synthesis of molecules and materials through to process development and optimisation, providing an ideal platform for interdisciplinary innovation. Our five research groups include: medicinal chemistry and chemical biology; nanoscience and materials; photonic materials; structure and dynamics; synthesis, reactivity and catalysis. Chemistry at Newcastle provides Bachelor and Masters degrees in Chemistry, and postgraduate and postdoctoral research opportunities over a wide range of chemical disciplines. Outreach opportunities exist within the Chemistry department, where local schools can visit and use laboratories to maximise their capability to teach chemistry. There are facilities also available for local and national industry.
