Newcastle, Northumbria and Durham Universities are bidding to the EPSRC to renew the Centre for Doctoral Training: Renewable Energy Northeast Universities (ReNu; https://renu.northumbria.ac.uk/) this year.
A key component of the bid will be the co-creation of PhD projects with industry where a company designs a project to address their specific R&D challenge. Examples of topics in renewable energy that can be covered in the CDT are given below but projects can be developed that align with company requirements. Download our ReNu document here to learn more.
• Batteries and Storage
• Energy Conservation and Transfer
• Fuel Cells and Hydrogen
• Marine, Wind and Tidal Turbines
• Smart Grid and Systems
• Solar Fuels
Co-created PhD projects will require a direct cash contribution from the company. The total cost of a ReNU studentship over 4 years is ~£120,000 and the direct cash contribution can be up to 100% or 50% with match-funding from the CDT. This investment will provide 4 years of focused R&D and access to university facilities for advanced characterisation, deposition and computing to directly benefit the company.
If you would like more information on the proposed ReNu CDT and how your company could benefit from it then please contact Prof. Elizabeth Gibson; Elizabeth.Gibson@newcastle.ac.uk who is the Newcastle ReNu academic lead.
