The TTE Engineering Firm of the Year Award is presented to the NEPIC member company that can clearly showcase business excellence from across the consultancy and engineering sector. The winning firm will have demonstrated innovative and timely solutions to engineering problems, and exemplar ‘best-in-class’ project delivery performance. Evidence of staff retention, recruitment initiatives and education programmes, along with a demonstration of responsible care and community projects are also required.
Axiom was founded in 2003 in a 90m3 office by two local engineers. From this humble beginning, this year’s Engineering Firm of the Year has become a leading asset management solutions provider supporting a diverse range of industry sectors both in the UK and globally.
2018 has been an exceptional year for the company as it looked to restructure after a management buyout in late 2017. In the following 12 months Axiom has not only secured flagship contracts within the emerging energy from waste sector, it has also been able to shed debt, increase sales and expand its workforce.
Axiom has offered full time positions to two Engineering Graduates and employed three new Apprentices. Investing in new talent has been a key philosophy of the company to address skills shortages and maintaining a balanced age profile. In total Axiom has increased its head count by a balance of eight new staff.
Working to a new business plan and with focused activity on business development Axiom’s in-house asset management database has continued to evolve with enhanced brand visibility during 2018. Axiom has also seen sales revenues increase by £200,000 achieving a turnover of £3.6m in 2018. This has spurred confidence to invest in new technology.
Looking ahead to 2019 and beyond, Axiom is extremely buoyant and ready to take on the opportunities and challenges that Brexit may bring. With the recent appointment of a new non-executive director with valuable experience as a CEO of a multi-million-pound organisation, Axiom is all set to maintain momentum to bring ongoing prosperity to the Tees Valley region.
