Waterwhelm is delighted to have joined NEPIC as a member!
At Waterwhelm, we produce high-quality freshwater from wastewater and seawater, by utilising waste heat available at industrial sites. We are currently designing and building the world’s largest forward osmosis water treatment plant, with a capacity of 740 m³/day, for Northumbrian Water Group’s (NWG) Bran Sands wastewater treatment facility, located at the Teesside Industrial Cluster.
We are excited to have joined NEPIC to pursue further collaborative opportunities. Deployment of our solution at members’ sites will help to strengthen local water resilience by reducing industrial reliance on potable water supply networks.
Waterwhelm has delivered successful projects across a range of sectors, including wastewater treatment, desalination, hydrogen production, food and beverage, and mining, with clients such as Veolia, Diageo and NWG. Our track record demonstrates our forward osmosis technology’s capacity to treat a diverse range of complex and challenging types of wastewater, at the world’s lowest rate of electricity consumption, reinforcing our potential to deliver significant value to the process industry.
The Teesside Industrial Cluster is forecast to use up to 190 million litres of water per day, enough to supply the equivalent of 1.33 million people. In the face of rising national water stress, and increasing incidents of drought, Waterwhelm’s solution merges two waste resources, wastewater and waste heat, to mitigate this critical challenge.
