Pepperl+Fuchs has achieved a real innovation highlight in mobile thin client technology with the introduction of the first ThinManager®-Ready Tablet series. In collaboration with Rockwell Automation, two devices are being offered specifically for use as mobile thin clients: the Tab-IND® and the Pad-Ex® 01 P12. The tablets do not require a traditional operating system – instead, they boot directly into a special ThinManager® firmware. This not only increases cyber security, but also greatly simplifies maintenance and updates, as local operating system patches are no longer necessary.
The devices integrate seamlessly into existing ThinManager® infrastructures, enabling centralized, secure management of mobile devices in production. The software platform offers secure and scalable centralised management of applications, hardware and users. By dispensing with a local operating system, there is also no risk of unwanted software installations or security vulnerabilities due to outdated software. The tablets are not only particularly robust and durable, but also offer the flexibility to design modern industrial work processes efficiently and securely – whether in production or maintenance.
The Tab-IND® is designed for standard industrial environments and impresses with its compact design, high robustness, and good readability even in sunlight. With display sizes of 8.4- or 10.1-inch, pen and glove operation, and a wide operating temperature range from −20°C to +50°C, it is particularly suitable for plant managers and maintenance personnel.
The Pad-Ex® 01 P12, on the other hand, was developed for applications in potentially explosive areas (Zone 2/22 or Division 2). It features a powerful 12th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 16 GB RAM, a 256 GB NVMe SSD, and modern interfaces such as Thunderbolt 4 and micro-HDMI. With a separately available docking station, the Pad-Ex® 01 can also be used as a stationary thin client.
With this solution, Pepperl+Fuchs and Rockwell Automation offer a powerful, future-proof platform for mobile industrial digitalization.
