Celebrating 20 years of NEPIC, a conversation with Mark Kenrick

Having dedicated many years to the chemical and processing sector, Mark Kenrick currently serves as the group SHEQ technical and risk management director at px Group. He first joined px Group in 2016 as SHEQ Director, he later served as CEO for a couple of years before leaving in 2019. After a short period in retirement, he rejoined them in 2022. Before joining px, Mark worked for 35 years in the process sector on Teesside and further afield.

Mark has been involved with NEPIC since its early days and also held the position of chairman of the board, initially joining in 2015.

Throughout this time, Mark has watched both NEPIC and the industry evolve significantly. Mark commented: “The industry has changed dramatically, driven by advances in technology. NEPIC has adapted alongside this change, becoming increasingly member-focused and committed to delivering real value. It’s clear that NEPIC places its members at the heart of everything it does.”

During his time as chairman, Mark played a crucial role in guiding the board, ensuring effective governance and operations, and consistently striving to act in the best interests of NEPIC’s members. He provided leadership, setting strategic direction and proudly represented NEPIC at external events. Mark expressed how he was proud to have played a part in NEPIC’s history over the last 20 years.

When asked about the key benefits of NEPIC membership, Mark emphasised, “For me, the networking opportunities and the ability to collaborate with other businesses within the industry stands out as one of the most valuable aspects.

“It’s incredibly beneficial to share challenges and solutions, fostering synergistic networking. NEPIC also offers a fantastic platform for younger professionals entering the sector to learn and connect with peers. However, to truly maximise the benefits, active participation through events, conferences and the annual awards is essential.”

Mark served his tenure as chairman, exiting in 2023, but in his current role, he continues to work closely with NEPIC through px Group’s membership and highlighted the importance of collaboration within the network: “While px Group has a global presence, Stockton-on-Tees feels like our heartland. Therefore, being a part of the NEPIC network is vital for us. We also deeply appreciate the NEPIC awards and find significant value in contributing to the community by sponsoring each year.”

Mark continued: “Ultimately, I feel NEPIC works to bring companies and people together and provides benefits that are much wider than just the processing sector. I hope for the next 20 years NEPIC continues to be at the forefront and continues to provide the valuable service that members in the North East need.”
