Born and bred in the North East of England, I have always been very passionate about the region and developing its growth potential.
I have 35 years’ experience in the Chemical Process Industry. A graduate chemist, I have held senior and strategic business management roles, for ICI, Terra Nitrogen and NEPIC.
As a research scientist for ICI, I was involved in polyaromatics R&D for use in the aerospace and automotive industries. I later joined the ICI Fertilizer and Industrial Chemical commercial teams. At Terra Nitrogen, I managed the chemicals business unit, as well as strategic purchasing roles, leading business development activity in NOx abatement.
In 2008, I joined NEPIC and lead for the cluster on low carbon activity and international development. I have developed a strong leadership role and a high profile for the North East of England and ensure the region welcomes and supports bioresource and renewable investments.
During 2011, I was responsible for creating a new business division, North East Bioresources and Renewables (NEBR), which has a broad remit focusing on renewable fuels, power, heat, chemicals/materials and a number of differing technologies such as gasification, pyrolysis, anaerobic digestion, fermentation, CCS, fractionation, transesterification, combustion, ORC and the division’s aim is in line with NEPIC’s overall strategy to identify, promote and grow the process industry in the North East of England.
I am a key representative for NEBR which also focusses on resource efficiency and overall energy and environmental management. I represent NEPIC, North East England and UK at international events and am a regular conference speaker both domestically and internationally.
