Darlington based company Sheers Limited, a leading provider of modular chemical dosing and control systems for the water, chemical and UK energy sectors, and Scottish-headquartered engineering group RSE (Ross-Shire Engineering) joined forces today as part of the next stage in both companies’ expansion.
The deal will see RSE take up a majority equity share in the business whilst retaining the key skills of the Sheers team.
RSE Managing Director, Allan Dallas, commented:
“The UK Water Sector faces significant environmental challenges in the coming years. The removal of Phosphorous from wastewater is one such challenge and can be addressed by RSE’s award winning modular treatment products. The engineering talent and manufacturing expertise in Sheers will enhance RSE’s offering in this space and provide closer access to markets in Northern England”.

Sheers has been successfully delivering engineered products and associated products to an enviable list of clients for over three decades. Specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of standard and customised modular chemical dosing and control systems for water, chemical and energy applications, Sheers’ in-house design expertise, project management and manufacturing facilities allow the company to service clients from initial feasibility and budget forecasting through to design, build, installation and commissioning. It is one of a handful of UK companies with specialist expertise and experience in successfully managing chlorine installation projects.
Sheers has an enviable track record in delivering safe and reliable systems, priding itself on the numerous long-term working relationships and framework contracts it enjoys with leading operators in the water, chemical and energy sectors.
This investment will secure employment for Sheers employees and allow Sheers to become a significant employer in the area for highly skilled operatives. The deal will also enable Sheers to continue to invest in apprenticeship schemes and career training programs.
RSE is an engineering group that specialises in Water Treatment & Clean Energy Solutions. Its 900+ staff are skilled in the design, engineering and delivery of MEICA projects and services (MEICA: Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Controls & Automation). The addition of Sheers to the RSE group creates the largest Chemical Dosing group within the UK.
RSE is owned by Inverness-headquartered Envoy & Partners Ltd. Its founders are building a portfolio of industrial service groups, of which RSE is attracting significant investment. Envoy’s CEO Iain MacGregor commented that Sheers was the first of four acquisitions lined up for RSE in the coming year. The owners plan to build a specialist MEICA contractor to the UK water sector with revenues exceeding £250 Million.
