The Process Industry sector is made up chemical manufacturing businesses and their supply chain companies, including engineering companies, environmental consultancies, lawyers and many others. The sector covers the whole range of chemical manufacturing from large scale Petrochemical companies through Fine and Speciality Chemicals, and into Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology. In addition, we have an increasing number of businesses working in the developing field of Biofuels and Renewables in the region.

In total there are more than 30,000 people employed in our sector across the whole of North East England, and around 280,000 indirectly involved. This provides opportunities for people leaving education to choose exciting careers in our sector, both through vocational (Apprenticeship) routes and as a graduate or postgraduate entrant.
