The North East Process Industry Cluster (NEPIC) is committed to supporting the development and enhancement of STEM based education and skills, and particularly so in our region. We are part of a network of several hundred companies that make up the Process Industries; a sector that is at the heart of everything we take for granted in our modern lives.

These companies are reliant on a flow of people into the industry, at both vocational and graduate levels, that are able to work with the complex science and engineering principles involved in our sector. Our companies support the activities of NEPIC wholeheartedly, meaning that we truly are ‘Led by Industry and Powered by Education’
We believe that engagement of young people at an early age is vital to help pupils begin to understand the importance of STEM subjects and to get the desire to study these subject areas as they progress through education. To encourage this we interact with schools, colleges and pupils across the region to provide support in this area.

Our Core Purpose: Develop and implement the strategy for raising the uptake of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) study across North East England; enhancing the perception of the process industry to attract and retain the best talent into the sector.

Objectives

Develop, organize and deliver a range of exciting and innovative STEM based activities for 5-19 year olds across the entire region working with teachers and the process industries to:

  • Raise awareness and improve perceptions of the process industry in the North East
  • Provide information and improve knowledge about the career opportunities available in the process industry
  • Develop various aspects of the STEM based curriculum especially those related to work
  • Enhance partnership working between schools, colleges, universities and the process industry
