  • Fun
  • Exciting
  • Caring
  • Rewarding
  • Challenging
  • Innovative
  • Essential

Did you know...

You don’t have to be a scientist to need science, or to be an engineer to need engineering?

The food and drinks we have, the air we breathe, the houses we live in, the clothes we wear, computers, mobile phones, our safety, our health and all modern technology depends on science, technology, engineering or maths. Science affects our daily lives and the society we live in.

Science tries to describe and understand the nature of the universe. It involves observation, identification, description and experimental investigation. Some of the skills developed through science include communication, team work and problem solving.

Biology is the study of life and living organisms and includes their structure, function, growth, origin, evolution and distribution. It helps us to understand how living things are grouped, what is needed for survival, where we all came from; why we are the way we are etc. Specialist areas include botany, zoology and ecology

Chemistry is the study of what matter is made up of, its structure, properties and reactions. It discusses the principles of matter and shows how countless different substances are made. Specialist areas include inorganic, organic and physical chemistry.

Physics is the study of matter, energy, space and time and of the relations between them. It covers things like acoustics, optics, electromagnetism, mechanics, atomic and nuclear physics

Technology is the application of science to industry and commercial aspects. It looks at the methods and tools that a society uses to solve practical problems

Engineering is the application of scientific and mathematical principles to practical uses like the design, manufacture and operation of efficient and economical structures, machines, processes and systems

Mathematics is the study of number, quantity, shape and space and involves calculations to solve problems. It includes algebra, geometry and calculus

Excellence in the sciences can open many doors and the life skills learned can provide job opportunities in different parts of the world.

The North East Process Industry (NEPIC) provides many opportunities to enable young people to find out just how exciting, fun and challenging science, technology, engineering and maths activities can be. Careers information is also provided. NEPIC is committed to education and skills and strives to ensure that the future workforce is well educated and skilled in the STEM areas .

Please look at what is on offer for students. If there’s anything that you think we’ve missed, please let us know  and we’ll try to include them in our future work.
