CHEMISTRY JAMBOREE RESIDENTIAL

Date: July - 3 day residential event
Location: University of Durham, Queen’s Campus - Stockton
Key Stage: KS4 - Year 10 (15-16 year olds)
Numbers: 30-35 Tees Valley students nominated by schools
Criteria for selection: Teacher support and pupil applications

Its main aim is to provide opportunities for pupils to further develop their interest and understanding of, and skills, in chemistry whilst working with University Academic staff and personnel from local science based companies.

The programme includes practical chemistry and other science activities devised and lead by staff from Universities of Teesside and York, visits to industrial sites and evening leisure activities. The event also offers students the opportunity to mix with pupils from other schools who are also interested in chemistry and the excitement of a residential stay. Students and schools taking part are sent a CD with photos taken with parental consent at the event.

A follow up day is organised for this group in December for the group to maintain an interest in chemistry and other sciences. The programme includes another practical chemistry session and a biochemistry/medical session
