Location: University of Teesside
Key Stage: Year 12 Students
Maximum no of students: 24

‘Chemistry for the Enthusiast’ was developed in partnership with the University of Teesside to provide continuity and progression for the young people who have taken part in SEU activities while at school especially the students who have taken part in the Chemistry Jamboree residential. It also provides an opportunity for students who have not been previously involved to do so.
It is an annually run programme for Year 12 students interested in or pursuing a chemistry course.
Schools and colleges in the region are invited to take part in this all day event and the students may be asked to work in school/college teams or in mixed teams. Teams are required to undertake various practical tasks to enhance and further develop their communication, analytical, problem solving and team work skills. A site visit to a local industry if often incorporated in the programme for the day.
Relevant University brochures are provided as is information from the Royal Society of Chemistry. Royal Society of Chemistry risk assessments and evaluation forms are used.
Follow Up
A follow up activity is arranged usually in February for these pupils when they are in Year 13. As they have made their choices for each study, a medicine all day event is held at the University of Durham, Stockton Campus.
