NEPIC Science Education Unit

CHEMISTRY AT WORK

Date: Annually - July
Duration: 3 days
Location: University of Teesside
Key Stage: KS 3/4

This annual event is organised locally by NEPIC and generously sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry and has taken place at the University of Teesside for over 10 years. Around 700 Year 9 and Year 10 students take part each year in a number of presentations about Biology, Chemistry and Physics given by local and national companies and organisations.

This event offers students the opportunity to meet people who use chemistry and science in their work; see how the chemistry and science they learn in school is put into practice by a variety of organisations and be shown the importance of chemistry and science in our society and in our daily lives.

Presenters cover a broad spectrum of education, business and industry e.g. Northumbrian Water, Corus UK Limited Avecia, BOC and the University’s department. The event is run over three day, offering schools the option of either a half day event or full day event. The inter-active half hour presentations are repeated throughout the day. The number of presentations done by each presenter is a maximum of six per day but this will depend on how many schools choose the presentation
